Essential information about visiting Tolhouse Gaol

The essentials

• Teacher-led visit: 1 hour free of charge - must be pre-booked due to limited opening hours
• Maximum group size - one class of around 30 pupils
• Learning programme offer: Key stages 2, 3 and 4
• Cost of events £4.00 per pupil, adults free of charge - number of adults limited

Museum overview

• Housed in a former 12^th century merchant's house, the Tolhouse is one of the oldest prisons in the country
• Real stories of thieves, smugglers, witches, pirates and murderers; transportations and executions
• Great collections and many hands-on displays
• The Tolhouse is just two minutes from the South Quay, which is well worth a visit. There is an excellent safe walkway along the riverside, from which historic buildings such as Yarmouth's grand Town Hall may be observed. King Street and St George's Hall are also nearby.

Parking

• There is limited road parking, public pay & display car parks are available nearby.

Access

• Toilets are via the adjoining NCC building (currently the library)
• Steps and uneven floors throughout
